Heavy gunfire erupted in south Lebanon's Ain al-Hilweh refugee camp Thursday evening, as supporters of Islamist Bilal Badr opened fire on joint security forces.

Badr is currently wanted for his role in leading a nearly week long battle against Palestinian factions in April. He is thought to be hiding out in the Al-Tiri neighborhood of the camp.

His supporters lobbed a grenade and fired at the security forces command building, resulting in the injury of one security officer.

Two members of the joint force, Ismail Abu Jamous and Rawhi Salama, were shot dead at the Al-Nidaa al-Insani Hospital in the camp.

Communications were opened immediately between relevant Palestinian authorities in an attempt to prevent further escalation.
