Labor Minister Salim Jreissati said Tuesday that an agreement to make Electricite de Liban contract workers permanent employees has not been completed yet.
“Up till now, no final agreement has been reached regarding the case of EDL workers and bill collectors,” Jreissati told Voice of Lebanon radio station.
He noted that a parliamentary committee has been set up and given a 10-day ultimatum to solve this issue.
EDL contract workers suspended their ongoing protests Friday in order to allow Cabinet and political parties to reach an agreement that would make them permanent employees at the state-run company.
However, they threatened to resume demonstrations if a deal was not struck by Monday.
Jreissati called for self-restraint while efforts are being exerted to resolve the issue.
